Our History
Welcome to Muddy Brook Farm, where the rich tapestry of history and the promise of innovation come together. Nestled in the heart of the historic Schoharie Valley in Middleburgh, New York, our permaculture-inspired farmhouse estate is dedicated to nurturing both the land and the people who connect with it. Our unwavering commitment to sustainability and community is at the core of everything we do. As stewards of this historic land and its cherished buildings, we honor the values that have defined Muddy Brook Farm for generations.
The historic homestead features a charming farmhouse, built in the early 1820s, offering a glimpse into the past with its timeless character and original architectural details. Our recent renovation has seamlessly modernized the farmhouse for the 21st century while lovingly preserving its heritage. The chef’s kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining options, living areas, and four bedrooms create a serene retreat for up to 10 guests.
Just beyond the homestead lies the treasured Dutch Barn, carefully relocated from the Hudson Valley to its current location after the Revolutionary War. This iconic structure, a testament to the region's agricultural and historical heritage, stands as a vital part of the farm’s landscape. Its time-tested craftsmanship pays homage to the hardworking early settlers who laid the foundation for the thriving farming community that exists today. Today, the Dutch Barn is available for curated guest experiences, as part of our event venue package, and as a community event space. An additional red barn supports our farming operations and storage needs, with future plans including an honor system farm store, a small workshop event space, and a veggie washing station.
Muddy Brook Farm invites guests to explore the fertile estate grounds and experience the beauty of nature in every season. Wander through a young fruit and nut forest, discover what’s growing in our fenced market garden, relax by the fire pit, play games, spread a picnic blanket for a nap, and enjoy the soothing sounds of our namesake Muddy Brook as it babbles along the property lines. With over seven acres to explore, there’s something for everyone.
